The federal government has announced the appointment of a panel to conduct an environmental review of Kinder Morgan’s expansion plans for the Trans Mountain oil pipeline between Alberta and southern British Columbia.
University of Winnipeg president Annette Trimbee, former Yukon Premier Tony Penikett and former Tsawwassen First Nation chief Kim Baird will make up the panel and will start work on the review next month.
The Trans Mountain pipeline would end in Burnaby, B.C. It would run along an existing pipeline which has been in place since 1953.
The panel will consult with indigenous groups, review online feedback and examine greenhouse gas emissions from the planned expansion.
The panel will report to Minister of Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr by November.
